The TLILIC0001 Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods by road is a nationally recognised unit of competency and a mandatory step for obtaining a dangerous goods driver’s licence.

Course Overview

The TLILIC0001 Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods by Road is a nationally recognised unit of competency and a mandatory step for obtaining a dangerous goods driver’s licence.

The training covers many aspects of the Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) Code, including classification, documentation, safety equipment, segregation, stowage, and safe transport procedures (including bulk transfer).

Upon successful completion, participants will have received the required knowledge and understanding need to safely transport dangerous goods in compliance with the ADG Code, along with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, which is also recognised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads for the licence application process.

16 hours plus breaks.

Face-to-face in class room.

Course Assessment

Transport and Main Roads Queensland has developed the Mandatory Assessment Instrument (MAI), which must be administered for the purposes of assessment for this unit, and may not be altered in any way
The assessment is broken up by subject and will be administered progressively throughout the 2 days of training, for final assessment at the end of the course
Written questions are completed by the student in a classroom environment, utilizing full and current copies of the ADG Code and associated legislation
Recognised Prior Learning is not accepted for the TLILIC0001 Licence to transport dangerous goods by road course, as outlined by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Entry Requirements

A valid USI number. (we can provide assistance in creating one for you if required)
Complete the DGS Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) assessment.
There are no formal entry requirements for the TLILIC0001 unit

However, students must have sound English comprehension for technical terminology.

Please note: There are additional licensing implications with TMR, outlined below.

Licensing Requirements

To be eligible for a dangerous goods driver licence, you must:

be a Queensland resident
hold a current Queensland open driver licence (or current Queensland probationary or restricted licence where you previously have held an open driver licence)
have a medical certificate for motor vehicle drivers issued no later than 6 months before you apply
have completed an approved dangerous goods driver training course no later than 6 months before you apply
have an acceptable criminal history and traffic history

Once you complete the course and receive your Statement of Attainment, you must then apply to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) via a transport and motoring customer service centre for your QLD dangerous goods driver licence. To submit your application, you will require…

your current Queensland driver licence
your medical certificate (F3712) (and F3195 if required) (completed and signed by your doctor)
your TLILIC0001 dangerous goods driver licence course certificate
your completed dangerous goods driver licence application form (F4486)
the licensing fee

The licensing fee will not be refunded if your application is unsuccessful.
All documents need to be less than 6 months old, at the time of application. New applications may be done online, but license renewals will need to be done in person. Once approved, you’ll be emailed with an attached interim authority. This is only valid once it has been printed and signed. You will receive your industry authority card within 28 days of approval.

Apply for a Dangerous Goods Driver Licence through the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) by submitting the required forms, medical evidence, training proof, and meeting all background and eligibility checks.

What To Bring With You To Training

Valid Australian State driver licence (required at the conclusion of the assessment)
Enclosed shoes and comfortable clothing
Suitable reading glasses (if required)
A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Special Conditions

If you hold a current interstate dangerous goods driver licence, you can drive a dangerous goods vehicle anywhere in Queensland
There is no requirement to change your dangerous goods driver licence if you become a resident of Queensland. You can use your interstate licence until it expires
You are personally responsible to check the expiry/renewal terms of your DG driver licence with TMR and renew accordingly
You must apply for a Queensland dangerous goods licence at least 6 weeks before your interstate dangerous goods driver licence expires
You will require a dangerous goods driver licence and vehicle licence when transporting dangerous goods in a receptacle with an individual capacity of more than 500L or more than 500kg, with the exception of a load of IBCs totalling not more than 3000L capacity, that are not filled or emptied while remaining on the vehicle
