People require a dangerous goods driver license and vehicle license when:

Transporting dangerous goods in a receptacle with a capacity of more than 500L or more than 500kg of dangerous goods in a receptacle

In the case of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), where the total capacity of all IBCs is more than 3000L or where IBC is filled or emptied while on the vehicle.

To be eligible for a dangerous goods driver license, the applicant must:

Be a Queensland resident

Z

Hold a current Queensland open driver license (or current Queensland probationary or restricted license where you previously have held an open driver license)

Z

Have a medical certificate for motor vehicle drivers issued no later than 6 months before applying

Z

Have completed an approved dangerous goods driver training course no later than 6 months before applying

Z

Have an acceptable criminal history and traffic history

This course is open to all persons in Queensland seeking a license to transport dangerous goods by road, who are eligible to obtain such a license.

  • Over 25 years of age
  • Hold a current Queensland open driver license (or current Queensland probationary or restricted license where you previously have held an open driver license)

Holders of a dangerous goods driver’s license must re-certify at least every 3 years.
